For others, a milder dependency requires a treatment program that meets an individual’s unique needs. Not everyone needs to enter residential or inpatient treatment. Similarly, for individuals in the early stages of recovery, an outpatient treatment program may be just what is needed to provide the necessary support. At Sierra Sage Recovery Services, we offer a full continuum of care. Upon intake, individuals can move through our addiction treatment programs progressively or upon intake and assessment, join a program like outpatient treatment that will deliver the best results for their situation.

What Is Outpatient Treatment?

For most people, rehab is imagined to be something akin to residential or inpatient treatment where the individual lives at a facility receiving treatment. Yet this isn’t the only kind of program available and may not be the best option to address the unique needs of a client’s addiction. Some individuals aren’t able because of personal or work commitments, to enter into a residential program, which usually requires a minimum of 30 days. This is one of the reasons addiction treatment professionals designed outpatient treatment. A program like this allows clients to continue to live at their home, fulfill their work responsibilities, and meet their family obligations yet still get the therapy they need to address their substance use disorder.

For individuals in the early stage of recovery, having just completed a residential program, outpatient treatment gives added support. It can also be an effective form of treatment for those who cannot afford an inpatient program or have recently experienced a relapse and just need guidance to get back on the path to sober living. An outpatient treatment program generally meets 1-2 times a week offering group and individual therapy.

Benefits Individuals Can Expect

There are numerous benefits to an outpatient treatment program. It allows individuals to schedule their treatment around their personal and professional life without putting undue pressure upon either aspect of their life. It is also an excellent way to maintain one’s privacy yet get the treatment necessary to keep a mild dependency from blossoming into a larger problem.

If a client struggles with chronic relapse, an outpatient treatment program gives them the support they need through group therapy to build a supportive community. This, in turn, decreases the likelihood of future relapse, allowing individuals to maintain their sobriety. Through group and individual therapy, individuals can identify both old and new triggers and work through them while developing a plan to overcome issues when they arise. Doing so mitigates the risk of relapse and allows clients to stay on the path of recovery.

Sierra Sage
